Upper Southern Region

Happy New Year from the Upper Southern area. We finished 2024 with some wonderful Christmas Support Groups in the main centres.

What’s on?

We’ve seen growing numbers attending our groups and we are looking forward to them starting up again in February.

Kate will continue to travel every 2 months to Greymouth and see the West Coast patients either in clinic or for home visits. She also travels to Timaru and Ashburton to run Support Groups every 2 months.

Helen facilitates support groups in Nelson and Blenheim every two months, as well as a support group in North Canterbury, which is held in Rangiora.

We are looking forward to Kids’ Club 2025, our monthly play therapy group for children who have a loved one living with a blood cancer.  We have new hoodies to present to the kids!

In February we will host an End of Treatment workshop – a collaboration with the nurse specialists at the hospital to help patients find their new normal after completing intensive treatment.

Last year we helped coordinate the enhancement on Ward B6 with the murals depicting the South Island landmarks and the Fishtank in the lounge area. The Day Ward and AYA space are next in line for some enhancements.

We held the first Shine for a Cure event at Hagley Park last September, thank you to those who attended.  It was a great success with planning underway for the event to happen again this year.

We welcome to LBC Hannah Reed, the new Business Development Manager for the Southern region, who will be based in Christchurch. You will see her at some of the events happening during the year.

We are aware that some of you will be dealing with significant challenges so please remember that we are available for one-to-one support, providing a listening ear and practical assistance.

Take care and please reach out as you need.
