Palliative care

Palliative care is aimed at relieving any symptoms or pain you may be experiencing as a result of your blood cancer or its treatment, rather than trying to cure or control it. Palliative care is not purely aimed at end-of-life care and may be involved in your care throughout treatment.

Palliative supportive care can include:

  • Low-dose chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy for symptom management
  • Improving quality of life by managing symptoms like pain, nausea, anaemia or infection
  • Emotional and practical support
  • Support given in hospital, hospice, at home or as an outpatient
  • End-of-life planning and care.
